19 people displaced after fourplex fire in South Austin

19 people have been displaced after a fire at a fourplex in South Austin.

The fire broke out at around 3:30 a.m. at the complex on Roxanna Drive off Slaughter and Westgate.

Four units were affected and it took crews about 20 minutes to put the fire out.

Six of those displaced are children.

Officials say a police officer who was assisting on scene did have to be rescued after becoming trapped. That officer is expected to be okay.

The Red Cross is assisting those displaced.

The cause of the fire is not known but the Austin Fire Department has classified the fire as arson.

Officials say there were working smoke alarms and that the cost of the damage is estimated to be around $200,000.
