Ammonia leak prompts evacuation at East Austin plant
AUSTIN, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - Ammonia was detected at the Reddy Ice plant in East Austin.
According to the Austin Fire Department, maintenance was being done to the ice supplier's plant when an alarm was activated about a possible ammonia leak on Monday, June 24. The maintenance team was evacuated and firefighters with AFD responded quickly to the plant on Springdale Road.
The ammonia leak was in the area where the ice is manufactured.
That part of the facility is expected to be shut down for some time.
