Huston-Tillotson University debuts first ever class ring
AUSTIN, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - For more than 140 years, Huston-Tillotson University, hasn't had a university ring. Today, the university debuted the design to a huge group of people.
Dr. Colette Pierce Burnette is the president of the university and basically the 2019 class wanted to pay homage to her leadership, because she's been in the same position since they first arrived on campus. An advisor on campus tells FOX 7 Austin many of these students, are first generation college students, so to see them walk across the stage is more than an academic accomplishment, it’s a holistic one, too.
And the timing of debuting the university ring fits perfectly. It's black history month.
Huston-Tillotson is the only historically black college university in Austin.
Smiling faces share moments of gratitude, determination, perseverance, and history that now will be sported in the form of an official class ring. Anyone affiliated with the school can buy the ring.
When you do, a portion of the money will be used for scholarships for the students.
