Local bar catches fatal hit-and-run on camera

Police are still searching for the suspect in a fatal hit and run on Cesar Chavez.

It happened early Wednesday morning, just outside of Bucket’s sports bar, in East Austin. According to the owner, their surveillance cameras caught the entire incident.

“He was getting ready to start a new adventure in Alaska,” said John Villela the uncle of 29-year-old- Jonathan Deleon. Surveillance video shows Jonathan Deleon packing his things in a car before stopping to talk to someone.

It's during this time he was hit by a car. The driver didn't stop.

Several people rushed to help after noticing what happened. Deleon would not survive.

“Like you see in the video it's just tragic,” said John Hernandez the owner of Buckets. The incident happened by Buckets sports bar where Deleon was well known. “He would come in here once and a while he was a good guy, young guy,” said Hernandez. Hernandez said Deleon was there that evening celebrating with friends. “It was a going away party, he was going to work with his dad in Alaska the following day,” said Hernandez.
