Neighbors not entirely happy with pink house in Pflugerville

It's not charcoal gray or dove white.

Many neighbors say it doesn't fit in well with the Mountain View neighborhood in Pflugerville.

"Beetle Juice movie or maybe Edward Scissor Hands just really different," said Anita Garcia.

Emilio Rodriguez bought his house in November and painted it pink. From the roof to the gutters, the color has become Rodríguez's new found obsession. "The driveways' going to be pink I'm getting all the grass removed for pink tile blocks I'm going to have pink spot lights on the trees pink car. I will paint my wheel chair pink," said Rodriguez.

After a car accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down at 4-years-old, and dozens of surgeries as a teenager, he was left in a wheelchair. Rodriguez says the color helps brighten up his day. "When I have to do medical stuff I can look up at the pink house and it kind of calms me down a little bit," said Rodriguez. But not everyone's interested in the new look.

"People say it looks like Pepto--Bismol but I'm going for pink slime," said Rodriguez.

He says some people in the neighborhood aren't exactly thrilled about the color scheme.

Rodriguez says there's no Homeowner's Association in the area. "Even if they made an HOA right here I'm already grandfathered in so we're set.  I did my homework beforehand," said Rodriguez.

The house has piqued  the curiosity of many people.

"To each his own..but yeah I wanted to see it for myself it was real,"  said Garcia.

She and her grandchildren drove by Sunday to catch a glimpse. Garcia wasn't the only onlooker.

Emanual Alvarado who lives a couple blocks down from the pink house stopped by Sunday to check it out. "This is definitely adding a twist to the neighborhood," said Alvarado.

He says he supports the look. "I would suggest to neighbors to be open minded because you know I think should invest energy into being different  and being yourself and not let being yourself be suppressed about what society thinks is normal,"  said Alvarado.

Rodriguez says the pink house is part of the 'Keep Austin Weird' vibe.

"How about 'Keep Pflugerville Weird.' It can all be together," said Rodriguez.

As the old saying goes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

For Rodriguez it's found in the color pink.

"Willy Wonka candy palace… it's just I think pink palace," said Rodriguez.
