Police investigate death in Hills of Hays neighborhood
SAN MARCOS, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - San Marcos police investigated a death at a home on the 1200 hundred block of Hilltop Drive in the Hills of Hays neighborhood Sunday morning. A notice by the city was posted to social media shortly before 1:00 p.m. advising residents to avoid the area.
Members of the patrol division and the criminal investigations division were conducting a death investigation. Neighbors say police knocked on their door around 11:00 a.m. inquiring about what happened.
David Velasco who has lived in the area for more than ten years describes the neighborhood as calm and quiet. "It was definitely a surprise like I said it's a really good neighborhood so when I saw so many cops out here in the morning it was like 6 cop cars out here so it was definitely alarming to see that," Velasco said.
After four hours, investigators began to tow a white van parked in the driveway of the property.
The department recently wrapped up its first homicide investigation of the year. The murder of Texas State freshman Aaron Peterman. Peterman was found in his condo February 13th at Park North Condominiums with a single gunshot wound. Police arrested Martin Garcia Jr. and James Lee Zapata Jr. On Friday in what detectives believe was a drug related robbery.
San Marcos police are expected to release more details in the investigation Monday.
