SAN MARCOS, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - Police are searching for a murder suspect following a shooting in San Marcos. 23-year-old Andrew Stephen Jones is wanted for the murder of 21-year-old Nicholas Devone White of Manvel.
According to the San Marcos Police Department, police officers were dispatched to the Uptown Square apartment complex in the 1300 block of Thorpe Lane around 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 5 for reports of a shooting. When officers arrived on scene, they located a victim - Nicholas Devone White - who had been shot in the parking lot for the complex.
White was transported to Seton Hays Medical Center where he died from his injuries.
Detectives with SMPD spoke with several witnesses who described the shooter as a black male, around 6'0"- 6'2", wearing a yellow shirt and light-colored shorts. Witnesses also described the suspect having a sleeve tattoo. It was also believed that he was seen driving a silver SUV.
One witness stated that he was meeting White at the apartment complex to buy drugs.
While at the complex, White and the witness were confronted by the suspect who produced a handgun and shot White. He then fled to the silver SUV and left the scene.
Using the vehicle description and surveillance video from the entrance and exits of the apartment complex, detectives were able to obtain a license plate that led to the suspect, An-drew Stephen Jones.
Jones' residence was located at the Pointe San Marcos Apartments, on North Comanche St, and surveillance was conducted by SMPD. Several roommates were located away from the apartment and interviewed. The vehicle Jones used to flee the shooting was also located at the apartment complex parking garage and was impounded to be processed for physical evidence.
On Saturday, April 6, around 5:30 a.m., the San Marcos Hays County SWAT team utilized explosive breaches to serve a search and arrest warrant at the suspect's residence. Nearby residents in the complex were notified via phone prior to the breaches and were all evacuated safely.
After a thorough search, the suspect was not located in the apartment.
There is an active warrant for Jones for murder. Anyone having information about his immediate whereabouts should contact Detective Patrick Aubry, 512.753.2306.
