UTPD identifies cyclist hit and killed by CapMetro bus

AUSTIN, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - The University of Texas at Austin Police Department has identified the bicyclist who was killed on Monday night. 39-year-old Anthony John Diaz was killed after he was hit by a CapMetro bus on the University of Texas at Austin campus.

Anthony Diaz was known as Tony at FOX 7 Austin, where we was a longtime employee. He worked in operations, but wore many hats at the station and was known as someone always ready to step in and help. He will be greatly missed. 

The crash happened on San Jacinto near East 23rd Street on Monday, Jan. 28 around 10:30 p.m. According to UTPD, he was traveling north on San Jacinto when he was hit by the bus.

He became trapped under the bus and died at the scene, according to ATCEMS.

UTPD is asking anyone who witnessed the crash or was on the bus to contact them at 512-471-4441 Ext. #9.
