Teenager sustains head injury in 'car-surfing' accident

A teenager in Spring is in critical condition this morning after falling from the hood of a vehicle while attempting to car surf.

Unfortunately, this is the second time in less than a week that a teenager has injured themselves during this type of senseless stunt.

The latest incident happened at the parking lot of Hildebrant Intermediate School.

“He was attempting to hood surf, body surf, and while they were on school property," said Harris County Sergeant Roy Lee. "He fell from the vehicle and pretty much landed on his head on the asphalt.“

The 17-year-old student from Klein Oak High School was transported via Life Flight with serious head injuries to Memorial Hermann Hospital.

FOX 26 learned that his friend, another 17-year-old, was the driver of the car.

Harris County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation on this case.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez responded to someone on Twitter who mentioned a similar incident like this happened earlier this week, saying “Yes, It’s something our deputies have encountered. It is definitely dangerous and ill-advised. Cars are not toys. Hope this young man makes a full recovery.”

Just four days ago, Houston police responded to a car surfing incident in southeast Houston, where a young man riding on the hood injured his arm after the driver lost control and crashed into a ditch.

Charges have not been filed in either case.

“We don’t hear about [these incidents] very much, but it is pretty prominent with the school kids, or with the juveniles, you know in this modern time,” said Sergeant Lee.
