Sully, former President George H.W. Bush's service dog, to provide therapy for military patients

Former President George H.W. Bush's service dog, Sully, will take on a new role providing therapy to patients at a military medical center outside of Washington, D.C.

Sully will join the facility dog program at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. He'll be welcomed in on Wednesday with a special ceremony.

The yellow Labrador retriever became the former president's service dog in June of last year. Sully had been trained by America's VetDogs, a nonprofit that provides service dog care.

He famously visited the casket of the former president during the memorial and funeral services.

The Walter Reed Bethesda Facility Dog Program provides care for patients and staff using innovative Animal Assisted Interventions (AAI). Their mission is to help reduce stress and increase overall feelings of well-being among patients and staff.

The facility says their dogs average 2,500 contacts and over 200 working hours per month, collectively.
