Austin FC breaks ground on stadium
AUSTIN, Texas - Austin FC is making history as it breaks ground on its multi-million dollar stadium.
Austin Mayor Steve Adler, Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber and Austin FC owner Anthony Precourt will be on hand for the ground breaking ceremony.
The stadium is expected to cost $242 million and construction should be completed in about 18 months. The team is expected to start play in the new stadium in the spring of 2021.
On game days there will be 835 parking spots around the stadium as well as eight acres dedicated to open space on the 24 acre site.
On game nights the area will be used for concerts and fan activities.
The site will also be able to host community events like music festival, farmers markets and art shows.
Austin FC recently announced that actor Matthew McConaughey is one of the team's owners.
The ground breaking ceremony starts at 10:30 a.m.
