A $9,000 grant was recently given to Austin's Texas Advocacy Project by the Allstate Foundation Helping Hands.

The grant will help support the organization's mission, which is to help prevent domestic and dating violence, sexual assault and stalking by providing free legal services, access to the justice system and education throughout Texas, the Allstate Foundation said.

Nine Allstate agency owners pulled together to come up with $1,000 each by stuffing backpacks with school supplies. The owners also handed out free legal and safety literature to mothers and children in domestic violence shelters across the state.

The Texas Advocacy Project is one of many organizations the Allstate Foundation Helping Hands presented grants to in 2017. "The grants support organizations addressing domestic violence, youth empowerment, disaster preparedness, hunger and other causes," the Foundation said in a statement.
