Westin Austin Downtown brings back life-sized gingerbread house
AUSTIN, Texas - The holidays are officially underway at the Westin Austin Downtown as it brings back its life-sized gingerbread house for another year.
Within the house is a dining room (which people can book to eat at) that's an extension of the Stella San Jac restaurant.
The room can seat 10-12 and will serve a variety of menus for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner from November 21 until January 1. That includes Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Eve.
This year's decor is Christmas vacation themed and as for the actual materials that were used for the house, Executive Chef Shane Edwards and his team started the process at the end of August and the amount of ingredients used is astounding!
- 900 lbs of flour
- 350 lbs of brown sugar
- 36 cases of corn syrup
- 5 cases of pure corn syrup
- 5 packs of pumpkin spice
- 25 cases of butter
- 5 cases of egg whites
- 25 lbs of ground ginger
- 500 lbs of powder sugar
The Westin Austin Downtown has also teamed up with a local non profit that combats homelessness through the power of running, community support and essential employment and housing resources.
A portion of all proceeds will go to Back on My Feet.
The first meal of the season in this year's gingerbread house was a complimentary meal for a man and his family. The man is a former alum from Back on My Feet who benefited from the organization's services.
If you'd like to reserve the room you can email gingerbreadhouse@westinaustindowntown.com or call 512-792-5643.
