1 dead, APD officer injured following crash in North Austin
AUSTIN, Texas - One person is dead and an Austin police officer is injured following a crash in north Austin on Friday.
Police said on June 30, around 5:03 p.m., officers responded to a crash in the 13000 block of N US 183 HWY NB. The crash involved an on-duty APD officer in a marked police unit and another driver.
Both vehicles suffered extensive damage, and the crash resulted in serious injuries to the civilian driver. Life-saving measures were performed, however, the driver was pronounced dead around 5:23 p.m.
The APD officer also suffered injuries and was taken to a local hospital.
The APD Vehicular Homicide Unit will investigate this incident. The APD Internal Affairs unit will also review the investigation.
No names will be given at this time until notifications have been made.
All lanes of US HWY 183 NB are currently closed. We advise the community to seek alternate routes.
