35 Del Valle ISD current and former employees sue district

More than 30 current and former Del Valle ISD employees are suing the district after hidden cameras were found placed in school bathrooms.

Juan Manuel Del Toro, a custodian arrested in 2022, was accused of secretly recording staff members at the Del Valle Opportunity Center.

The civil suit claims the district failed to protect victims by allowing a history of complaints to go unchecked.

Dating back to 2018, the district moved Del Toro to different locations after several sexual misconduct complaints were made against him.

The 35 victims are asking for $1 million.

The district has declined to comment while the case is pending.

Background

A former Del Valle ISD custodian is accused of planting hidden cameras in school bathrooms.

Juan Manuel Del Toro faces several charges of invasive visual recording.

He was first arrested in 2022, and FOX 7 Austin was told all four victims are adults.

According to arrest paperwork, Del Toro was busted after a contractor found several thumb drives containing images of female staff exposed. Also in the recordings, were images of Del Toro's work station, which led officers right to him.

Authorities said at least five staff restrooms had been tampered with, and plastic camera mounts were found in Del Toro's work station.

The district has declined to comment while the case is pending.
