DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - A former starving and abused dog is now happy, healthy, and adopted.
Phoenix, a boxer mix, was alone and chained up most of his life, officials said. When Douglas County Animal Services found him, Phoenix needed around the clock care from veterinarians in order to survive.
Officials said his health was touch-and-go for a while, but with the thousands of dollars donated to Douglas County Animal Services to help pay for the veterinarian bills, he got the care he needed.
Phoenix survived heartworms, starvation, and almost criminal neglect.
Seven months after he was found almost dead, Phoenix is at his new forever home with Bella Haney and her family.
