50 African-American veterans who served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War headed to Washington on Friday afternoon with Honor Flight Austin.
The veterans will visit the memorials built in their honor on their quick trip to the capital. In addition to military service memorials, they will visit the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial and the National Museum of African American History and Culture.
Their flight was scheduled to leave Austin just after noon on Friday and land in Washington at 4:15 p.m.
They return to the Lone Star state on Saturday evening. Honor Flight Austin was created to honor veterans throughout Central Texas by transporting them to their war memorials.
This is their fourth flight this fall.
