APD: 19-year-old dead after rear-end collision

AUSTIN, Texas - A man is dead after a rear-end collision on IH-35, according to APD. 

The accident occurred just before midnight on Wednesday at southbound IH-35 in the 7400 block. 

The preliminary investigation shows that a white 2007 Ford Mustang was stopped in the center lane when it was struck from behind by a white 2017 Peterbuilt tractor truck. The driver of the mustang, a 19-year-old Hispanic man, was pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver of the Peterbuilt tractor truck remained on scene and cooperated with the police. 

No charges are expected to be filed at this time.

This is Austin’s 63rd fatal traffic crash of 2019, resulting in 65 fatalities this year. At this time in 2018, there were 52 fatal traffic crashes and 53 traffic fatalities, according to APD.
