Suspicious package forces school evacuation

Austin ISD police say a suspicious package forced the evacuation of Perez Elementary School on Wednesday.

A suspicious package found in South Austin was not an explosive device, the Austin Police Department (APD) said.

Police said around 11:44 a.m. on June 12, the bomb squad responded to a suspicious package call in the 7500 block of S Pleasant Valley Road near Perez Elementary School. 

Several hours later, the bomb squad determined the package was not an explosive.

There is no longer a threat to the public.

No other information was released.
