APD investigating suspicious death in East Austin as homicide

The official cause of death was a gunshot wound and the manner of death is Homicide.

The Austin Police Department is investigating a suspicious death in East Austin as a homicide. 

According to police, Austin 911 received a call of shots fired at an apartment complex within the 6100 block of Manor Road shortly before 8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 2. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a male victim on the ground with an obvious gunshot wound.

ATCEMS arrived and began life-saving measures before pronouncing the man dead.

The Travis County Medical Examiner’s office conducted an autopsy on February 3, 2021. The official cause of death was a gunshot wound and the manner of death is Homicide.

Police investigate suspicious death in East Austin

Police got several calls about gunshots from neighbors at an apartment complex in the 6000 block of Manor Road. FOX 7 Austin's John Krinjak has latest on the investigation.

The victim is described only as a black man believed to be around 50-years-old. He has not been officially identified and it's unclear if he was a resident at the apartment complex.

It's also unclear at this time if the suspect knew the victim. Police do not have a description of a suspect at this time and did not rule out the possibility that there could be more than one suspect.
