Austin Police say a body found off SH-71 in Del Valle is being investigated as a suspicious death.

At this point, authorities don't know what happened. They will classify this as a suspicious death until they find out otherwise. APD says someone called 911 around 3:00 p.m. reporting a body found in Del Valle on the side of the road.

Austin Travis County EMS, Austin Fire Departmemt and APD all responded to the 3000 block of SH-71 East, where they discovered a dead body in a creekbed below. There are trails back there and a waterfall but it’s described as a secluded area.

Austin Police are not releasing much information; we have yet to find out if it is a woman or a man. But, they do believe the body had been there for a while. Detectives were on scene Tuesday for several hours collecting evidence and gathering information. We're told they will also have to look into missing persons calls and see if they can make any type of connection there.

“They're very careful. They're taking pictures and everything else to document everything, going through things with a fine-tooth comb to find anything that might be suspicious or out of place,” says SPO Demitri Hobbs, Austin Police Department.

The medical examiner's office will do an autopsy to try and determine the cause of death.
