APD makes arrest in fatal East Austin shooting
AUSTIN, Texas - The Austin Police Department has made an arrest in the fatal shooting of 38-year-old James Lewis Allen Jr.
Jeffrey Garner, 21, was arrested in Manor and is currently in custody in the Travis County Jail.
According to police, 911 received a call of a shooting in the parking lot at 1050 Springdale Road around 10 p.m. on Thursday, May 28. Officers with APD arrived and located the victim with obvious trauma to his body.
First responders with Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services attempted lifesaving measures but James Lewis Allen Jr. succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Homicide detectives spoke with witnesses who described the suspect as a Black male, 19 to 20 years of age, 5’6, 130 pounds, with a short black afro and wearing all black clothing. He was last seen running from the parking lot after the shooting, according to witnesses.
Detectives were able to identify the suspect as Jeffrey Garner. He was arrested around 11:20 a.m. on Friday, May 29 in Manor, Texas.

The Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office will be conducting an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death.
