AUSTIN, Texas - According to tweets sent by the Austin Police Department, two officers helped deliver a baby on the side of the road late Tuesday evening.
APD officers Vandervalk and Tuminelli were conducting a traffic stop Tuesday when another car stopped next to them, police say.
The panicked driver then got out of his car and motioned to the back seat where the mother of his child was actively giving birth. "Officer Tuminelli called for EMS, while Officer Vandervalk gloved up and opened the door, just in time for the brand new baby to be delivered." one of the tweets said.
The officers helped deliver a healthy baby girl and stayed on scene until EMS arrived.
Later in the day, the two officers joined the Austin Police's Operation Blue Santa to help wrap gifts for the baby they helped deliver.
