APD: One person killed in crash on Rundberg Lane
AUSTIN, Texas - At least one person was killed in a car accident in North Austin Thursday morning.
Police were called at 9:40 a.m. about a power outage on Rundberg Lane and Collinfield Drive affecting the traffic lights. While officers were en route, they received a second call about a four-vehicle car crash in the same area.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found four vehicles and a total of eight occupants had been involved in the crash. Five occupants were transported for medical treatment, according to the Austin Police Department.
One adult male was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center with critical, life-threatening injuries, where he later died from his injuries.
A teenager involved in the crash was also transported to Dell Seton Medical Center at The University of Texas with non-life threatening injuries. Two other teenagers and a pediatric patient involved in the crash were transported to Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas with non-life-threatening injuries.
Rundberg Lane and Collinfield Drive was shut down for about five hours while officers were cleaning up the debris and investigating.
APD is investigating what caused this multi-vehicle crash, but say they do know the traffic lights were down when it happened.
APD wants to remind the public that if you come across a traffic light that is down or blinking, slow down and treat the area as a four-way stop sign. The investigation is ongoing.
