AUSTIN, Texas - The Austin Police Department is investigating a deadly home invasion in northeast Austin. Three people tried breaking into an apartment but were shot by the person who lives there.
Police said they responded to a call about a shooting at the Creekside Apartments in the 5400 block of East Parmer Lane around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday (2/18) night.
Three people broke into an apartment as part of a home invasion robbery and the apartment's residents were home at the time and responded by shooting at the suspects. Two of the three people were killed.
The third suspect was taken to a nearby hospital.
Nearby neighbors were evacuated for a time until police determined it was safe for them to return.
The investigation is ongoing. Police say they received numerous calls reporting the shooting and are asking people to contact them if they have information.
Investigators say it's still not clear if the suspects know the apartment's residents.
