4 detained following 'military-style' weapons theft in South Austin, police say
AUSTIN, Texas - The Austin Police Department SWAT team responded to an incident in South Austin on Friday, April 28.
Austin police said around 3:12 p.m., officers headed to a SWAT call-out in the 600 block of S Lamar Boulevard.
Police say a suspect stole high-powered military-style weapons and ammunition from a storage unit at a storage facility. The weapons were recovered by police at a homeless encampment near the railroad tracks in the South Lamar/Barton Springs Road area.
Four people were detained, including a person of interest. The suspect is expected to face burglary charges.
Police are executing a search warrant in case they find more stolen weapons.
