KINGSLAND, Texas - Two people are dead after a murder-suicide in Kingsland on Tuesday night.
The Llano County Sheriff’s Office said it happened on Nov. 19 at a house on Skyline Drive near Ridgeway Street.
Deputies were called to a house on Skyline Drive because of multiple shots being fired. The woman who called said she locked herself in the home with her four-year-old daughter. She believed her friend may have been shot by her ex-boyfriend, Jon Deron Kendrick.
When the first deputies arrived, he immediately heard two gun shots coming from the front yard of the home. The deputy couldn't see any movement in the yard because of the trees, and it was dark outside.
There were attempts by law enforcement to make contact with Kendrick. When that didn't work, the officers went towards the home and found two men dead on the front porch. Both with gunshot wounds.
One of the men was identified as 35-year-old Jon Kendrick of Kingsland.
The name of the other man who died is not being released until next of kin is notified.
The woman and her child were found inside the home, unarmed.
"Around 6:10, we heard some shots, but we didn’t know what, since it’s very common in this area," said Elizabeth Lemon, who spoke to FOX 7 Austin in Spanish.
She was on her way to pick up her daughter from school.
"When we returned we saw that there were several streets closed and police, and we didn't know what was going on," she said.
"All of a sudden, you hear those shots, and you’re thinking what happened?" said Dalia Ixek, who spoke to FOX 7 Austin in Spanish. She also lives nearby. "And now the kids can’t be outside because something could happen to them, and you don’t know what to do."
Parents, and especially the neighborhood kids, say this will be in the back of their minds at drop-off from now on.
"It makes me feel scared because, like what if one time my mom can’t pick me up, and I have to walk alone?" said Genesis Xagada, a neighborhood kid.
The sheriff’s office was not available for an interview Wednesday.
They said they are not closing the investigation yet because they want to make sure no other people are involved first.
