ARLINGTON, Texas - An Arlington guitar teacher is facing charges for allegedly sexually abusing a child.
Charles Rogers Jr., who is more widely known as Reid Rogers, was arrested back in February. The 66-year-old is charged with the continuous sexual abuse of a child.
Investigators believe one child was sexually assaulted on at least two occasions. Their fear is there could be even more victims.
Rogers worked at Sounds Good School of Music on Fort Bend Drive in Arlington. The school closed shortly after the victim reached out to police in January.
Investigators say a man who was dropping off an instrument for repairs at the store in January saw Rogers and a 9-year-old girl he was giving guitar lessons to in a compromising position.
The arrest affidavit says the witness “opened the door. He saw the suspect’s chair next to the victim.” The document describes in graphic terms that Rogers appeared to be molesting the girl and that “both the suspect and the victim had their clothes on.”
After the witness reported the incident, police say the child made an outcry.
“As the detectives have gotten more and more into this, they have not ruled out the possibility that there could be additional victims in the community,” said Arlington Police Lt. Chris Cook.
Liling Chapman is a neighboring business owner who says she knew Rogers in passing and heard about the abuse allegations from the child’s father.
“The girl’s father came into my place, and he told me about this story,” Chapman said. “And I was shocked. He said he touched his daughter.”
Police say Rogers has been giving music lessons for more than 25 years.
“You can imagine how many students he probably has interacted with over that span of a career that long,” Cook said. “So we’re optimistic that people will come forward if they were victimized.”
Any potential victims are encouraged to come forward by calling Det. Trisha Walker at 817-795-9992 ext. 141 or emailing trisha.walker@arlingtontx.gov.
Rogers is free on a $35,000 bond.
