Austin animal shelters offer "Name Your Price" adoptions this weekend
AUSTIN, Texas - Animal shelters across Austin are teaming up on a "Name Your Price" adoption promotion this weekend with the goal of finding homes for 400 animals.
The Austin Animal Center, Austin Pets Alive and the Austin Humane Society are working together on the promotion, which runs from Friday, October 11 through Sunday, October 13. The promotion applies to all dogs and cats at the Austin Animal Center, all dogs and cats over six months at the Austin Humane Society and all cats and the dogs in the Canine Good Citizen and TOP Dog programs at Austin Pets Alive.
The promotion is due to unusually high intake numbers at the city shelter, says the Austin Animal Center. The center has seen a 16 percent increase over the last year when compared to 2018. This time last year, shelter capacity was around 570 animals. This year, capacity is around 789 animals.
The Center says it has operated at over capacity for most of the year, frequently needing to use pop-up kennels in meeting rooms for dogs. Unprecedented cat intake has led to cats being housed in offices and meeting rooms as well.
Anyone interested in adopting or fostering this weekend can visit the Austin Animal Center on Levander Loop, Austin Pets Alive's downtown or Tarrytown facilities, or the Austin Humane Society on Anderson Lane.
