Austin's cold weather shelters activated on Dec. 20
AUSTIN, Texas - The cold weather shelters in Austin will be activated on Friday, Dec. 20.
Due to anticipated cold weather, the city of Austin will open overnight cold weather shelters on Friday, Dec. 20.
Registration for the shelter will take place between 6-8 p.m. on Friday at One Texas Center (OTC), 505 Barton Springs Road.
Shelters will open when forecasted overnight temperatures at Camp Mabry are expected to reach 35 degrees or below.
How to get to a cold weather shelter
Bus routes to OTC are lines: 1, 7, 10, 20, 30, 105, 142, 801.
For those wanting to go to the cold weather shelter, and need to ride a CapMetro bus, you will still be given a ride if you cannot pay.
An after-hours embarkation service will also be available for those needing a ride to a shelter outside the embarkation period.
