Austin condo building shot at multiple times; 2 people arrested

Two people were arrested after a shooting at a downtown Austin condo Sunday night.

Austin police said on Dec. 29, around 8:58 p.m., officers responded to reports of shots fired near the intersection of W 5th Street and West Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found multiple bullet casings.

"I mean, it's a problem, and it's dangerous," says Mike Levy, a friend of a tenant.

Bob Hinojosa, 43, was found near the scene and was arrested and charged with deadly conduct and felon in possession of a firearm.

A second suspect, 45-year-old Christina Miranda, was charged with deadly conduct and possession of a controlled substance.

"You're hearing these incidents all the time with increasing frequency," says Levy.

"This is reported to be a random act and not targeted at any specific building.  Fifth and West was reportedly hit by 6 shots as high as the 5th floor, including a window in the southeast side of the lobby by the 5th street patio door," Fifth and West Residential Condominium Community management said in a statement.

Levy said there is a lack of police presence in the area.

"It's not unusual. Anybody who monitors this kind of activity. I mean, you can talk to police officers, they'll tell you the same thing. It's increasing. You know, this kind of activity, dangerous activity, is increasing, and you see it a lot in a lot of ways in terms of doing inappropriate act. If you drive around saying you're seeing more and more graffiti. No different. You know, it's these crimes that are increasing because there's no police visibility," says Levy.

Both Hinojosa and Miranda were booked into the Travis County Jail.

There were no injuries in the shooting.

This incident is still under investigation.
