The Board of Trustees had its first opportunity to discuss Dr. Cruz’s announcement at our February 24, 2020 Board meeting.
First and most importantly, Austin ISD and our employees are focused on our students and families. That’s our priority every day and will continue to be so during this time of transition.
In the coming weeks and months, the Board and Dr. Cruz will work together to establish a preliminary timeline and a transition plan that maintains the momentum of our current work and honors the District’s priorities.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I want the community to know that as we select the next leader of AISD, we are committing to a transparent process which includes meaningful community engagement and timely communication. We anticipate posting a Request For Proposal for a superintendent search firm and afterwards, sharing a preliminary timeline for the selection process with the community. Stay tuned to our Board meetings for the latest update on the selection process.
For now, we remain grateful to Dr. Cruz for his 14 years of service and look forward to working with him and the AISD community on a smooth transition.
