Austin ISD looks to feed students during extended Spring Break

Austin ISD is announcing changes to its food services amid the coronavirus outbreak. 

After the City of Austin announced the first cases of coronavirus in Travis County, AISD canceled classes and extended Spring Break for students.

Now, with the extended Spring Break, the School District is teaming up with the Central Texas Food Bank and Austin Voices for Education and Youth to ensure students can still get fed.

The organizations are holding multiple events in multiple locations from Tuesday through Thursday this upcoming week.

Event Schedule is as follows: 

Tuesday, March 17 

  • Central Texas Food Bank Fresh Foods for Families Distribution: South Austin Neighborhood Center (2508 Durwood St, Austin, TX 78704), 9 a.m - 12 p.m.
  • Central Texas Food Bank Mobile Food Pantries: Galindo Elementary (3800 S 2nd St, Austin, TX 78704), 12-1 p.m.

Wednesday, March 18

  • Central Texas Food Bank Mobile Food Pantries:  Padron Elementary (2011 W Rundberg Ln, Austin, TX 78758), 8:30-9:30 a.m. Turner Roberts Rec Center (7201 Colony Loop, Austin, TX 78724), 9-11 a.m.
  • Austin Voices for Education & Youth Food Pantries: Burnet Middle School (8401 Hathaway Dr, Austin, TX 78757 - in portable marked "Family Resource Center"), 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Webb Middle School (601 E St Johns Ave, Austin, TX 78752 - in portable marked "Family Resource Center"), 2-4 p.m.

Thursday, March 19 

  • Central Texas Food Bank Mobile Food Pantry: Linder Elementary (2800 Metcalfe Rd, Austin, TX 78741), 12:30-1:30 p.m.
