Austin ISD to reopen outdoor facilities, playgrounds to remain closed

Austin ISD will be reopening some of its outdoor facilities, but playgrounds will remain closed until further notice.

Effective April 27 at 7 p.m., all Austin ISD tracks, fields and courts, including tennis courts, football fields, basketball courts and play fields will be accessible. Playgrounds will remain closed to further protect the community from the spread of COVID-19, says the district.

The district says access to playgrounds will be re-evaluated as information from the Health Department becomes available.

The closures went into effect on April 9. At the time, the district said the closures were in alignment with the City of Austin and Travis County's Stay-Home-Work Safe order.
