'Austin, Let's Be a City of Us' campaign urging Austinites to wear face coverings

The Opening Central Texas for Business Task Force, in coordination with the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce, is debuting its "Austin, Let's Be a City of Us" campaign.

The campaign, created by Roy Spence CEO of Spence Communications, encourages Austinites to be united in the commitment to wear a face mask to protect all of Austin from another spike in COVID-19.

Austin Mayor Steve Adler, Austin Chamber President & CEO Laura Huffman, and Spence are talking about the campaign at a news conference at 1:30 p.m.

"Encouraging each other to maintain social distancing and wear a mask is the right thing to do and must be top of mind as we navigate this crisis," said Huffman in a news release. "It is truly wonderful that so many leaders in our community from diverse backgrounds have come together to make this campaign a reality."

Public service announcements will begin running on local television stations with the song "Touch the Sky" by Austin-based Grammy-nominated Black Pumas as the PSA's background music.

"Austin businesses, more than most, know the importance of wearing masks to sustain the opening of the economy," said Adler in the release. "We've got to do this, we've got to do this together, and we've got to do this now."

Spence adds, "Austin business owners and staff are working so hard to get back on their feet again. When all of us wear a mask, that's one less thing they have to worry about. A mask on each of us is a win for all of us."
