At least a dozen shots were fired Wednesday morning in the parking lot of the Agave Falls apartment complex in Northeast Austin.

Austin police report a resident shot at a man from his balcony and the man returned fire striking the resident in his leg.

APD arrived shortly before noon found a man bleeding heavily and used a tourniquet to stabilize him.

Austin Travis County EMS reported the man to be in serious condition.

The suspect drove off and after 20-minutes police located and detained him.

Damage left behind from the shooting can be seen on resident's cars and buildings.

Maria Gonzalez says she was in her car 15-minutes before she entered her apartment and heard gun shots.

"It's dangerous because what if the bullet instead of coming sideways and doesn't hit the car and comes inside my house and hits one of my family members, me or anyone of us,” Gonzalez said.

"Thank God we are okay, and that none of us got hit,"  Gonzalez adds.

Austin Achieve elementary school was placed on shutdown.

Parents said they are relieved no children were playing outside at the time.

Two people were detained for questioning. Police said the two men involved in the shooting were acquaintances.

No word yet on what led to the shooting.
