AUSTIN, Texas - It's that time of year when Zilker Park is lit up for the holidays.
There are plenty of new exhibits as well as some twists on old favorites at this year's Trail of Lights. Some of the exhibits this year are also interactive.
The Trail of Lights is one of Austin's most celebrated holiday traditions with 2019 marking its 55th return.
While the event is an Austin tradition, there was a time when it seemed like the lights would stay off for good after the city stopped putting on the event in 2008. The Trail of Lights Foundation took over, stepping in a few years later to turn those lights back on.
With the mix of cold weather, music, food and, of course, the lights, attendees say it's a great way to get into the holiday spirit.
The Trail of Lights will be open for the next two weeks and admission is free half that time. This year they are expecting half a million people to walk the trail.
