Austin volunteer baking group raises 13k for Australia wildfires
AUSTIN, Texas - An Austin all-volunteer based baking group raised over $13,000 benefiting the wildfires in Australia.
The group is called Austin Bakes for Charity.
It started in 2011 with a goal of holding bake sales to benefit various natural disaster relief funds. So far, Austin Bakes has raised $60,000 in total at their several bake sales.
The most recent bake sale was in support of the Global Giving Australia Wildfire Relief Fund.
The bake sale was held at 9 different locations all over Austin and had more than 200 bakers volunteering their homemade treats to be sold. Over $13,000 was raised for Australia.
Kathryn Hutchison is the volunteer coordinator for Austin Bakes for Australia and says each fundraiser means a lot to these volunteers. “Whenever we have these fundraisers, whether we raise $100 or $13,000, it's something that we in Austin do to make a difference,” said Hutchinson.
