Austin Water says chlorine leak at wastewater treatment plant due to faulty cylinder
AUSTIN, Texas - Austin Water says a small chlorine leak at a wastewater treatment plant near the Barton Creek Wilderness Park was caused by a faulty cylinder.
Austin Fire Department crews responded to the leak inside a room at the Lost Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant in the 1300 block of Quaker Ridge Drive. Officials say there were no injuries and the leak was contained to one room.
Austin Water said in a statement no employees were harmed and there is no danger to the public.
The leak occurred due to a faulty cylinder when employees were changing it out, says Austin Water. The cylinder, as of 3:28 p.m., is being secured and will be removed.
Austin Water says employees followed safety precautions to manage the leak and notified emergency personnel. There is no impact to the treatment process.
