AUSTIN, Texas - A woman found a toddler wandering around an apartment complex alone this morning in Southeast Austin. CPS is now investigating.
Monday morning Stephanie Garcia saw a toddler walking alone around this apartment complex in Southeast Austin.
"She just had a Pampers. She didn't have any clothes on. She had two different shoes on," said Garcia.
The mother of three happened to have everything she needed inside her SUV.
"I right away covered her. I had my son's clothes in the car. Put on some of his clothes. I changed her Pamper and put her in the car," Garcia said.
Garcia searched the complex looking for the girl's parents.
She took a photo and posted it on Facebook along with her phone number asking for anyone who recognized the girl to call.
Garcia then reached out to police.
When officers arrived, they located the child's mother within ten minutes. She was inside an apartment unit, still sleeping.
The child was taken to Dell Children's Hospital with what Austin-Travis County EMS defined as minimal non-life threatening injuries.
Talking about the situation brought Garcia to tears, "That just breaks my heart because I have boys and that could've been my son or you know?"
The child is out of the hospital and in its' parents' custody. CPS is investigating.
"I'm so worried about her still," said Garcia.
But despite those feelings, Garcia is at least thankful she was in the right place at the right time.
"I'm glad I could get her to a safer spot where she's out of trouble where somebody else could've picked her up," she said.
