Suspect threatens to shoot officers prompting lengthy standoff in Cedar Park, police say

CEDAR PARK, Texas - Cedar Park police have reopened the roadway after a barricaded suspect was taken into custody.

It started with a domestic violence call at 12:25 a.m. Friday at an apartment complex in the 1400 block of Main Street near Discovery Blvd.

Police say the caller reported a woman had been assaulted and threatened with a firearm.

The suspect fled the scene before police got there. Police say officers helped the woman get to safety before the man returned and threatened to shoot officers.

Investigators say the man barricaded himself in the apartment and continued to make threats.

SWAT was called to the scene and crisis negotiators tried to resolve the situation for several hours, but police say the suspect refused to cooperate.

They eventually deployed gas inside the apartment and the suspect came out and was taken into custody.

No one was injured.

The suspect, 31-year-old Ashton Carter, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and was booked into the Williamson County Jail.
