Spring may be coming early this year. Bee Cave Bob the armadillo did not see his shadow Friday.

"We all know what the armadillo is and the respect we have for them, it's amazing how much we get together at least once a year and celebrate this occasion," Animal trainer and rehabilitator Ralph Fisher said.

It was Armadillo Day.

"How about most unique Texas day ever, that's what we're going to call it," Armadillo Day organizer Mike Burke said.

It’s the day Bee Cave Bob makes his predictions on whether it’s going to be a long winter or if spring is around the corner. On Friday, it was cloudy.

Groundhog Day: Bee Cave Bob to make prediction

It's Groundhog Day, but here in Austin it's really more like Armadillo Day. Instead of Punxsutawney Phil, armadillos are predicting when the season will change. Casey Claiborne has more on the history of Bee Cave Bob.

The armadillo’s owner said he’s been 100 percent accurate in his predictions in years past.

"I don't know if that's a Texas tale or not, but that's what someone just told me," Fisher said.

Bee Cave Bob’s predictions mirrors Punxutawney Phil’s prediction of an early spring, too.
