Bernie Sanders visits Austin one day after winning Nevada caucuses

Coming off a win in Nevada, it looks like Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders is the candidate to beat for the Democratic presidential nomination. 

“Iowa, New Hampshire, Nebraska – they said it couldn’t be done. But what did we do? We did it. And let me tell you what else we’re gonna do – we’re gonna win Texas!” said Trumaine Smith, Austin field director for the Bernie Sanders campaign. 
 
Coming off of a win in Nebraska, it appears as though the democratic presidential nomination is Sanders’ to lose. 
 
“I really hope [Bernie Sanders] keeps winning.” said Joey Lopez. 
 
Lopez, was part of a large crowd that gathered to see Sanders speak at Auditorium shores in Austin, Texas Sunday. 
 
“The pundits tell us that Texas is a conservative state.” Sanders said, as the crowd booed. “I don't believe that for a minute. I believe that if the working people of Texas, black and white and latino, native american, asian american, stand up and come out to vote, you're gonna make this one of the most progressive states in America.”

Sanders’ visit to Austin, came after visits to San Antonio and El Paso. It was clear the Vermont Senator had shifted his focus to ‘Super Tuesday’, specifically the Lonestar state. 
 
Sunday Sanders focused on his bread and butter issues – social and criminal justice reform, ending student debt, immigration and medicare for all. 
 
“Today we say to drug companies and insurance companies whether you like it or not we are gonna pass a Medicare for all single payer program.” 
 
Speaking in Texas, the Vermont senator did not shy away from hot button issues.

Speaking in Texas, the Vermont senator did not shy away from hot button issues. The senator shared his stance on gun control. 

“Our gun safety will be written by and for American people -- not the NRA. We will have universal background checks, end the gun show loophole, ban the sale and distribution of assault weapons in this country.”

“Bernie has always said the same d*** thing. Constantly and consistently without wavering.” said Sanders supporter, Seth White. 
 
The senator shared his stance on gun control. 
 
“Our gun safety will be written by and for American people -- not the NRA. We will have universal background checks, end the gun show loophole, ban the sale and distribution of assault weapons in this country.” 
 
He also discussed shifting away from the fossil fuel industry. 
 
“We must transform our energy system away from fossil fuel to energy efficiency and sustainable energy.”

Perhaps most notably, Sanders worked to make it clear, that he believes he is the candidate to beat President Trump. 
 
“If we are prepared to stand together, create an agenda that works for all of us not just a few we will defeat trump transform this country.” he said. 
 
Standing by his side, was his former rival – Marianne Williamson. She made a surprise appearance endorsing the senator. 
 
“I'm here and you're here because it's time for us to take a stand for Bernie.” she said.
