Bicyclist killed after being hit by car on MLK, call for bike lanes
AUSTIN, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) - A bicyclist has been killed after being hit by a car on MLK Boulevard, just east of I-35. It happened Thursday night just after 9:00.
Police identified the woman as 28-year-old Jessica Saathoff.
She was pronounced dead at Dell Seton Medical Center minutes after the crash.
This incident happens just two months after FOX 7 employee and avid cyclist Tony Diaz was killed nearby on the UT campus, while riding his bicycle. Injury attorney Brad Houston says it takes a community effort to stop these incidents. "The injuries and the deaths of cyclists is just a symptom of a big problem and that is, there are a lot of people in this town who are violating safety rules, driving distracted and what not. It's a community safety issue,” said Houston.
The driver did stay on scene after the crash.
No word on what caused the crash yet.
