Boating crash on Lake Travis
Authorities have now found the person who had been missing overnight after being involved in a boating crash on Lake Travis.
It all happened just before midnight. Officials responded to a call in the 16400 block of Stewart Road.
Austin/Travis County EMS says a total of six victims were involved in the collision.
Five of the victims were accounted for but one had been missing. He was eventually found at a house across the lake early this morning.
Officials believe the boat ran aground onto a sand bar while on the lake.
Two women were taken by STAR Flight to a hospital with non life threatening injuries. One man was also taken to the hospital. Two others refused transport.
The collision comes just days after a swimmer went missing on Lake Travis after his family called to say he went under the water near the Mansfield Dam and never resurfaced. Dive teams with the Travis County Sheriff's Office have yet to recover the body.
Officials say when boating at night it's imperative that you take safety precautions including the following:
- Make sure you use all your navigation lights so other boaters can see you. Just like you wouldn't drive your car without headlights you shouldn't boat without lights.
- Slow down. You don't know what could be out there and you can't see as well in the dark.
- Be sure your boat has enough life jackets for everyone on board.
- Never drink and operate a boat.
