Broken Spoke dance hall closes due to coronavirus

The Broken Spoke, a popular dance hall in South Austin, has closed due to the coronavirus.

The business reported the closure on Twitter, saying they don't take this lightly.

"We are incredibly upset to announce that we will be closing due to the Coronavirus. We don’t take this lightly. It’s tough after being continuously open for the past 55 years," the tweet reads. "Thanks y’all for your understanding and the Spoke will keep on rolling with the times!"

The Broken Spoke has been a staple of the Austin honky-tonk scene since it opened in 1964 and was featured on the cover of country music legend George Strait's album "Honky Tonk Time Machine."
