Brush fire in East Austin now 100% contained

Multiple agencies respond to brush fire in East Austin

Evacuation orders were in place for select residents in the area.

Officials say a 25-30 acre brush fire in East Austin is now contained.

Multiple agencies including the Austin Fire Department, Travis County ESD #12, and Travis County Fire Rescue helped fight the fire at FM 969 and Gilbert Road. STAR Flight conducted water drops on the area and a dozer was requested from Texas A&M Forest Service.

Travis County Sheriff's Office issued evacuations for the Bartney Cove area. An evacuation center was set up at Gilbert Elementary School, located at 5412 Gilbert Road.

Officials said 9-12 homes were threatened by the fire, but none were damaged.

A public information officer with Travis County ESD #12 said the fire was 100% contained as of 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27.
