Millions of people are traveling to visit family and friends and officials at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (ABIA) predict at least 41,000 people will travel in and out the airport during the Thanksgiving period.
Airport officials recommend people arrive early to give yourself plenty of time for traffic and to get through security and to find parking. FOX 7 Austin's Jacqueline Sarkissian was out at ABIA with a look at lines.
ABIA officials expect today (11/21) as the busiest travel day this week and have a few tips for people so they don't get too stressed during the holiday rush.
- Check your flight status before you head out the door (You can do that here)
- Arrive to your terminal at least two hours before your flight and make sure you're headed to the right one. Frontier is now out of the South Terminal.
- Give yourself time if you're taking rideshare or taxi as a new pickup area has been opened
- Dress and pack smart so you can go smoothly through security. Tips from ABIA can be found here.
Meantime four million Texans are expected to hit the road for Thanksgiving so law enforcement is stepping up patrols.
DPS, police and sheriff's deputies will be stationed at locations all across the state watching or drunk, aggressive, distracted and speeding drivers as well as people not wearing seatbelts.
Officials say their best advice is to slow down, put down distractions like your phone, give yourself plenty of time so you're not rushing and of course never drive fatigued or drunk.
