The deadly shooting in Jacksonville, Florida is sparking a lot of calls for tighter security at other professional video gaming events. Austin is home to some of those events and now some of those companies are responding.

Three people were killed and several others injured in the shooting over the weekend. One of those injured is reportedly from the Central Texas area.

Professional gaming is a continually growing industry and the community is a close one. Many of the professional gamers know one another from competitions and other events. The events also have a huge following online through streaming platforms like YouTube and Twitch.

Recently many of those gamers gathered in Austin for RTX Austin, a gaming convention held by Rooster Teeth.

Tyler Coe, who works for Rooster Teeth, tweeted out: "To my #Madden family - I love you guys. Our hearts here @RoosterTeeth go out to those that lost their lives and to their loved ones. Let us know if there is anything we can do to help."

SXSW Gaming, which is held during the annual SXSW Conference and Festivals in March, also responded saying in a tweet: "Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the horrific shooting at the Madden 19 Tournament in Jacksonville today."

Another event locally is DreamHack which was held in June at the Austin Convention Center. One gamer that attended the event said that there was minimal security there and says that most of the ones he attends have hardly any with usually just a badge check.
