Capital Metro buses now available to, from state homeless encampment

Cap Metro has set up a temporary bus route to and from the state homeless encampment. They said this is to help those staying at the camp to get services they need in the city. However, it will still cost the regular bus fare.

At 8:30 and 11:30 in the morning, a bus will come and pick people up at the camp and drop them off at the bus stop at 5th Street and Shady Lane.

In the afternoon, a bus at 1:45 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. will take people back to the encampment area.

“That ride there can be for anybody in that area if they want to go to that location, it's not just for the encampment, it's a safe way to get them to a bus stop,” said Tammy Quinn with Cap Metro.

According to Cap Metro, they don't actually plan on a whole lot of people using these buses within the first week as people are still learning about it but if ridership continues to stay low they may have to cut this program altogether.

“If our ridership doesn't warrant it then we will probably discontinue before the end of the year but if our ridership warrants it and when I say that it can be a very low number,” said Quinn.

Right now they are planning on having these buses run through the end of the year.
